Antalya Kaleiçi Guide: Hadrian's Gate, the Marina and Historic Streets

Antalya's historic core, Kaleiçi, tucked within the old walls, is the city's most atmospheric quarter with its narrow stone streets, courtyard mansions and bougainvillea. With its marina facing the Mediterranean and its layers running from Rome to the Ottomans, it is perfect to explore on foot.

Hadrian's Gate and the historic streets
The three-arched marble gate built in honour of Emperor Hadrian offers a grand entrance to Kaleiçi. Step inside and streets winding among restored Ottoman houses greet you, lined with boutique hotels, cafés and craft shops. The Broken Minaret and old baths are also along the way.

The marina and the Yivli Minaret
The historic marina at the foot of Kaleiçi is lively with boats and fish restaurants; boat trips towards the bay set off from here. The city's emblem, the Yivli (Fluted) Minaret, dates from the Seljuk era with its grooved shaft and tiles, and is the most familiar feature of the skyline.

Around Kaleiçi and practical tips
Nearby, the Düden Waterfall tumbling into the sea, the long Konyaaltı beach and the world-class collection of the Antalya Museum round out the visit. Spring and autumn are the most ideal; summer is hot but cools down by the harbour in the evenings. Comfortable shoes make the stone streets easier.

Exploring Kaleiçi and its surroundings makes for an enjoyable day. Planning your accommodation options in the region in advance helps you make the most of your visit.
