Marmaris Travel Guide: The Marina, Bays and Boat Trips

In the south-west of Muğla, where pine-clad mountains descend to a sheltered gulf, Marmaris is a lively resort where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean. With its large marina, bustling seafront and the hidden bays around it, it appeals to those who want both to relax and to have fun.

The marina, castle and old town
The modern marina, where hundreds of yachts moor, is the heart of Marmaris; the promenade along it is full of cafés and restaurants. From Marmaris Castle on the hill you can take in the panorama of the gulf; the old town of narrow streets at the foot of the castle, with its stone houses and bazaar, offers a nostalgic break.

Bays and boat trips
The clear beaches of İçmeler and Turunç are bays easily reached by regular boats. Day boat trips from the marina make swimming stops at Paradise Island (Cennet Adası) and the calm bays around. Routes stretching towards the Datça peninsula are ideal for nature lovers.

When to go and tips
May–June and September are the most ideal months for both sea and weather; July–August are hot and busy. Early morning is calmer for a boat trip. Keep sun protection and comfortable shoes with you.

Exploring Marmaris and its surroundings makes for a few enjoyable days. Planning your villa and accommodation options in the region in advance helps you make the most of your holiday.
