Villa Blue Sirena

Villa Blue Sirena is a holiday villa set on a hillside in Kalkan, looking out over olive groves towards the bay and the open sea. Early in the morning there is little on the pool terrace beyond the coolness rising from the valley and the sea in the distance.

The architecture is modern and clearly drawn; yellow bands set between white volumes and wide glazed surfaces in anthracite frames give the house a recognisable silhouette. Inside, cream marble floors, recessed ceiling lighting and a glossy open kitchen carry the same calm, ordered line through the whole house.

Location and View

The villa stands on a slope close to the centre of Kalkan yet drawn back from the busier part of the settlement, surrounded largely by olive groves and Mediterranean scrub. Along the seaward front the bay, the facing hillsides and the islands off the coast are visible, and the same view opens from the pool terrace as well as from the wide window of the indoor pool hall. Because of the hillside pattern of Kalkan, the villa shares its line of sight with some of the neighbouring houses.

Bedrooms

Bedroom 1 (Indoor Pool Level) — Master; double bed, mirrored wardrobe and dressing table, with a sliding glass door opening directly onto the indoor pool hall.

Bedroom 2 (Upper Floor) — Two single beds and a mirrored wardrobe; its own glass door leads out to a railed balcony and the room takes daylight throughout the day.

Pool and Garden

Two separate pools define the character of the villa. The outdoor pool runs along the front of the terrace; its overflow edge opens towards the valley so the water surface merges with the view, while one arm reaches in beneath the overhang of the house and forms a sheltered section that stays shaded in the middle of the day. The indoor pool lies in a separate hall lit from a roof opening; a jacuzzi stands on the timber deck beside it and a wood-lined sauna follows in the same part of the house. At the shaded end of the terrace there is a seating area under the pergola, with olive trees and scrubland around it.

Points to Note

• The villa is built on a slope; the roads leading up to it are narrow and steep and may be demanding for drivers unused to such lanes.

• There is no regular public transport in the area; a hire car or a transfer is recommended.

• There are other houses nearby; although screens and shading are in place around the terrace, complete privacy cannot be guaranteed.

• The indoor pool hall connects to one of the bedrooms through a glass door, so humidity and sound may be noticeable in that room while the pool is in use.

• The pool edges are not railed and the terrace is raised; guests with small children should keep them under constant supervision around the water.

• The villa stands on a natural hillside among olive groves, so insects are normal during the summer months.
